UPDATED: DA's Office Identifies Two People Who Died in Stabbing, Police-Involved Shooting

The incident occurred early Monday morning in Weymouth.

A woman was allegedly stabbed to death and Weymouth Police reportedly shot and killed a man during an early morning incident at 69 Prospect Hill Road.

Weymouth Police and an ambulance responded to the home at about 1 a.m. Monday. The Norfolk County District Attorney’s office said the call was “believed to be medical in nature.”

Police found a white male, identified as Paul Campbell, 49, of the address, “in an agitated state, apparently armed with one or more knives,” according to the DA’s office.

“As the confrontation outside the residence unfolded, both officers apparently made the simultaneous decision that the use of force was necessary and both discharged their weapons. The male was struck and incapacitated,” said the DA’s office.

Paul Campbell was taken to South Shore Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police found a body of a white female, Patricia Campbell, 72, on the front steps. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Patricia was Paul’s mother, according to the DA’s office.

Paul was the father of Boston Mayor Marty Walsh’s girlfriend’s adult daughter. The mayor’s office confirmed this with CBS Boston on Monday.

“While the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, there was evidence of stabbing injury. It is unknown if that autopsy will be conducted today,” said the DA’s office.

State Police Crime Scene Services Section, State Police Detectives from the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office and Weymouth detectives are investigating.

“As is Weymouth protocol, the officers were also transported to the hospital for evaluation, and they will be on administrative leave,” said the DA’s office.
