Unemployment Increases in Weymouth

Like the state as a whole, the jobless rate increased in Weymouth during January.

According to statistics from the state’s Office of Labor and Workforce Development, the unemployment rate for the town increased from 4.9 percent in December to 5.4 percent in January.

In January 2014, the unemployment rate in Weymouth was 6.8 percent.

Statewide, the unemployment rate decreased from 4.9 percent to 5.6, slightly above the national rate of 5.5. Of the roughly 3.6 million residents that make up the state’s labor force, over 3.3 million are employed while 198,200 are unemployed.
