The Unitarian Universalist Church of Weymouth will host an Open House from 10-12 noon Sunday, August 20. The church is located at 83 Sea Street in North Weymouth, on Rt. 3A between the Fore River and Hingham bridges.
Unitarian Universalism is a liberal protestant denomination that honors the wisdom of all religions as it encourages individuals to engage in a free and responsible search for truth and meaning. Unitarian Universalists place a high value on the use of reason, the right of conscience, and the transforming power of love to create a more just society. Members are united by covenant to affirm and promote the Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism that include:
- The inherent worth and dignity of every person
- Justice, equity, compassion in all relations
- Acceptance of one another and encouragement toward spiritual growth
- Free and responsible search for truth and meaning
- Right of conscience and use of the democratic process
- Goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all
- Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Weymouth was originally founded as the First Universalist Society of Weymouth in 1836 and in 1864 provided the first pulpit to Rev. The Unitarian Universalist Church of Weymouth is committed to social justice. Beau Rivers, minister of the congregation, says “In addition to being a Welcoming Congregation to members of LGBTQIA community, we are developing relationships with our Muslim neighbors at the Quincy Mosque, and will be offering social justice programs this year on climate change, anti-racism, anti-semitism, and transgender awareness. We are growing a community that fosters religious freedom, celebrates diversity, encourages spiritual growth, and promotes social responsibility.
So whoever you are, wherever you are on life’s journey, come to the Open House from 10am - 12pm Sunday, August 20th. Bring your friends and family. There will be activities for children, brochures about Unitarian Universalism, and several other displays, as well as some light refreshments!”
