The course features a climb up Heart Attack Hill, a screaming descent, and a short trail and grass section before a return trip over the Esker to the finish line near the entrance to Great Esker Park.

Registration is now open for a 5K road race that will benefit Esker Park and the Herring Run.

The 3.1 mile “Over the Esker,” race will begin and end in North Weymouth next to Margaritas and Lowes on Route 3A on Oct. 12 at 10 a.m.

Great Esker Park features more than six miles of trails where visitors can enjoy beautiful views. Bird watching is a popular activity as osprey, great blue heron, snowy egrets, red- tailed hawks, owls and many other species of bird are abundant seasonally.

The park is open from dawn to dusk, year round and all visitors are welcome for day visits.
