In 2014, she was named the assistant superintendent.
The process to find Salim's replacement has not been without controversy. The Superintendent Search Committee has been criticized for naming Curtis-Whipple the only finalist for the position. Committee Chairwoman Kate McCulley defended the decision, saying that they were advised to not put forward any finalists that they did not feel comfortable as the superintendent.
Curtis-Whipple will start her new position on July 1.
