Weymouth Cafeterias Offer a Healthy Start to School Day

All of the Weymouth Public School cafeterias will be serving breakfast this years as a way to get students off to a healthy start to their day.

The school cafeterias will be serving assorted cereals, fruits, juices, milks, pastries and yogurts, according to Elizabeth Harris, the WPS Community Liaison.

Any three items eaten together on their menu is considered a healthy meal, according to WPS Food Service Director David Zeoli.

"During my interview for Food Service Director in 2004, I made it very clear that one of my main goals was to establish breakfast programs in all of our schools," Zeoli said. "Breakfast is very important especially for young students."

The cafeterias offer a variety of healthy choice breakfast cereals from Kelloggs and General Mills and a variety of fresh and canned fruits such as bananas, apples, oranges canteloupe, peaches, and pears. 

They also serve fruit punch, and apple, orange and grape juice.

"Depending on the menu we offer scrambled eggs, egg and cheese on a muffin, cheddar cheese omelets and french toast," Zeoli said.

Each school will serve breakfast before classes every day. All free and reduced lunch participants will apply for breakfast.

To promote the program, Weymouth High School students will be treated to a free breakfast on Monday, September 9 starting at 6:50 a.m.

Weymouth schools have been offering breakfast for years.  William Seach School started before 2004, according to Zeoli.  All of the other Weymouth Public Schools began around 2008-09.
