Weymouth High School Evacuated Twice

Students and staff in the gold building were asked to leave the building twice Wednesday.

Weymouth High School students and staff were forced to leave the gold building not once, but twice during school hours on Wednesday.

According to a statement from Principal Peter Haviland, an evacuation of the gold building was initiated at 8 a.m. this morning after the sprinkler system was activated. After Weymouth fire assessed the situation, students and staff returned to the building at 8:53 a.m. and classes resumed at 9:16 a.m.

With the exception of a small portion of the ground floor of the gold building, all students and staff were able to safely and efficiently navigate their way through the building for the remainder of the day.

At 12:22 p.m., students in the gold building were again evacuated while those in the maroon building were instructed to remain in their classrooms due to a fire alarm that was set off by smoke in a Culinary Department Kitchen. No fire was discovered and fire crews cleared the building for use at 12:39 p.m.

All afterschool activities will occur as scheduled.
