Weymouth Looking for Ways to Avoid Snow Days Next Year
Weymouth students, parents, and staff are encouraged to take a survey to help shape the 2015-16 school calendar.

After an unprecedented winter, the Weymouth School District is asking the community for feedback pertaining to the 2015-16 school calendar.
“As you know, Weymouth experienced a challenging winter which required a large number of snow days. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education recommends that school districts consider a few different options to ensure that the 180-day school year requirement is met,” the introduction to the survey reads. “We are interested in your feedback on these options as we develop the calendar for the 2015-16 school year.”
Looking for ways avoid rushing to the required 180 days of school like this year, the survey asks about options such as starting school in August, eliminating Good Friday as an off-day, and merging February and April vacation into a one-week break in March.

Recently, the school committee voted to request a waiver from the Commissioner of Education for an exemption on the 180-day policy for school. If the waiver is denied, students can expect to go to school on Good Friday and some Saturdays.
