Weymouth Man Charged With Killing Wife To Face Psychological Exam

A Weymouth man charged with killing his wife will undergo a mental health evaluation to determine to if he is competent to stand trial.

NORTON, MA — A Weymouth man charged with killing his wife will undergo a mental health evaluation to determine to if he is competent to stand trial.

Martin McDonald, 37, is charged with murder. Court records Reviewed by the Sun Chronicle indicate that the forensic psychologist has been hired by McDonald and the test will take place at the Bristol County House of Corrections in Dartmouth.

McDonald is expected back in court Feb. 27. The results of the psychological exam may be known at that time.

On Jan. 27 2016, police in Norton received a report of a stabbing in the apartment of Julie Meede. First responders found Meede unresponsive and she was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

After the alleged murder, McDonald got into a Dodge Ram pickup truck and traveled south on Route 495. While on the highway, he crossed over the median and struck a Nissan traveling in the northbound lane. The driver, a 30-year-old Rhode Island woman, was seriously injured and transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

McDonald pleaded not guilty to the charge. He has been ordered held in jail without bail.

Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney’s office, said they are ready for trial.
