WEYMOUTH, MA — A Weymouth man is charged with assault with intent to murder, and a 41-year-old man is recovering in the hospital from what Weymouth police said are very serious injuries, following a stabbing at the Middle Street shopping plaza Saturday night. Weymouth police said Sunday morning that the victim is expected to survive the injuries to the torso.

Weymouth police said the suspect, Mark Allsopp, 32, and the victim are known to each other, and that the stabbing appears to be an escalation of a dispute on social media.

Weymouth police said they began a search for Allsopp in the neighborhood around Middle Street early Saturday night after he fled the scene of the stabbing. Officer Manish Moideen located Allsopp a short time later on Pine Ridge Road and took him into custody with the help of responding officers.
