Weymouth Man Charged with Shooting Gun While Driving Drunk

Francisco Torres, 26, was arrested early Sunday morning by the Quincy Police Department.

QUINCY, MA — A Weymouth man faces charges in Quincy after allegedly shooting a gun, refusing to stop for police, and crashing into a vehicle, all while under the influence of alcohol.

Francisco Torres, 26, was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm with 500 feet of a dwelling/building in use, defacing the serial number of a firearm, operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop when signaled, speeding, operating with a suspended license, and leaving the scene of property damage, according to the Quincy Police Department.

At about 1:21 a.m., and officer near Revel Nightclub on Parkingway noticed& a motor vehicle in the area of Parkingway and Walter J. Hannon Parkway. The operator was allegedly beeping his horn repeatedly for no apparent reason and then made an abrupt right hand turn onto Walter J. Hannon Parkway towards Burgin Parkway, police said. The officer then heard three or four distinct pops that sounded like gunshots.

Police were able to locate the vehicle in the area of Newport and South Central Avenue. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, at which time the vehicle accelerated, police said. The short pursuit ended after Torres allegedly struck a parked car. Torres was subsequently placed under arrest.

Torres is scheduled to be arraigned in Quincy District Court on Jan. 17.
