Weymouth Man Faces Shoplifting Charge After Failed Escape by Climbing Rock Wall

Police say a Weymouth man attempted to flee police at the South Shore Plaza by climbing a nearby rock wall.

Two people attempted to flee police Sunday after allegedly shoplifting at the South Shore Plaza.

Lauren Tusi, 25, of Raynham and Derek Ryan, 25, of Weymouth were arrested shortly after 3:30 p.m. and charged with assault and battery and larceny over $250, according to Braintree Police Chief Russ Jenkins.

After officers responded to a report of a shoplifter at Sears, loss prevention at the store told police that while they had detained Tusi, the man later identified as Ryan fled the scene in a vehicle.

Witnesses told officers the male party exited the vehicle near Sullivan Tire and attempted to leave the property by climbing a rock wall, however, he was apprehended by officers.

Loss prevention told officers that Tusi and Ryan had allegedly selected several items from the store and left without paying. When store employees attempted to stop them, the two allegedly began to physically assault the workers with Ryan being able to get into the waiting vehicle, while Tusi was escorted back to the loss prevention office.
