Weymouth Man Gets 'Guardian Angel' In Form Of State Trooper
When a Weymouth man had tire trouble and a bad phone signal, it was a state trooper who showed up at the right place, at the right time.
WEYMOUTH, MA — When a Weymouth man on Interstate 93 South was in need of a prayer and a new tire, he got his angel in the form of a Massachusetts trooper who happened to be in the right place in the right time.
The 71-year-old man wrote police about Trooper Steven Hanafin of the Andover Barracks in a letter to Troop A Major Pat Russolill. About a month ago, the man was traveling down Interstate 93 from New Hampshire when he began to have problems with a tire.
"I was scared and had not much cell service left on my phone. I called my road service and was having hard times with them. Then God sent an Angel, Tpr. Steven Hanafin, to my rescue... He protected me and after a while he even talked to my road service company and told them I was in a bad area and he hoped they could come soon," the man wrote.

Despite assurances from the man that he would be fine if Hanafin had to leave, the trooper said he wasn't leaving until the man was able to be on his way. After the trooper noticed that the man's license plate revealed the person he was helping was a fellow Marine, the two bonded.
Road service came and Hanafin helped put the tire in the man's trunk. The man was on his way until he went to start his car and discovered he drained his battery from having his flashers on. Hanafin made a phone call, and within five minutes two men showed up and jumped the battery.

The man was finally able to go home.
"Now, after I got going he followed me until I got on the road home," the man continued in his letter. "And... he took my number and called me at my house to make sure I got home safe. Never in my life have I seen this and when I tell somebody they can't believe what I tell them, even my brother who for 28 years (was) a police officer."
Along with his letter, the man sent two Guardian Angel coins, one for the Trooper and one for the Troop Major.
