Weymouth Man Pleads Guilty To Apartment Fire

WEYMOUTH, MA — A Weymouth man has admitted to setting his family apartment on fire and smashing the windows on a family van.
On the day he was supposed to go to trial, Brian Nigro, 30, pleaded guilty to arson of a dwelling and malicious destruction of property, according to Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey.
“This is an example of the excellent teamwork between the DA’s office, Weymouth Police and Fire Departments as well as the State Police assigned to the Fire Marshal’s office. This fire resulted in over $100,000 in damage and displaced the two families residing in the duplex,” Weymouth Fire Chief Kieth Stark said in a release. “Arson is a serious crime, we are fortunate that nobody was killed or injured as a result of this fire.”

Nigro was sentenced two-and-a-half years in jail and three years probation. He was credited with six months committee and the remaining two years were suspended during the period of his probation. Prosecutors requested three to five years in a state prison.
Morrissey that witnesses saw Nigro acting suspiciously and breaking the windows of the vehicle just before smoke was discovered, giving the Weymouth man little chance at trial.

Nigro committed the crime Feb. 1, 2014 and was indicted by a Norfolk County Grand Jury later that year.
