Weymouth Man Writes Business Book About T.G.I. Friday’s

A South Weymouth native was once responsible for helping "T.G.I. Friday's become established in Massachusetts.

Jeff Ryan, helped put one of the best-know American restaurant chains on the map  in the Northeast.

Ryan, a former Real Estate Director for "T.G.I. Friday's," was once responsible for helping  the popular chain restaurant become established in Massachusetts, and now the 1967 Weymouth High School graduate has just released his new book, “A Man Short,” to tell all about it.

Ryan, who is from South Weymouth,  claims his new book “is an hysterical and illuminating coast-to-coast story of a top-notch real estate team, their fundamental training in the field, and their rambunctious journey in transforming the industry of casual dining into the restaurant concept of T.G.I. Friday's that swept the nation. “

In his book, Ryan gives details on how Friday’s started out as one of the hottest American singles bars and how it transformed into a family-style restaurant.

Ryan said the book has a real estate theme where his journey with Friday’s began  down South and ended in Norwell, MA. He considers it a “business book,” and recommends anyone who is looking to expand their own company to read it.

“It’s an entrepreneurial story of how three entrepreneurs started this concept, beginning in 1965,” he said.

The book gives details on how Friday’s  first became established in Manhattan, how it almost went out of business and how it learned from its mistakes, bounced back and became the number one casual dining concept in America.

Ryan said the book also includes sex and humor and tales of his travel.

“It’s a wildly entertaining back porch read, not a boring business book,” he said.

Ryan, age 63, worked for Friday’s for eight years and now lives in Providence. His additional real estate experience includes such successes as "The Capital Grille" and "Bugaboo Creek Steakhouse."

“A Man Short” can be purchased on E Book and Kindle and on his very own website, www.amanshort.com.
