Weymouth Mayor Proposes Vera Adams Tribute At Library

Adams and Weymouth Sgt. Michael Chesna were shot to death July 15.

WEYMOUTH, MA – Weymouth Mayor Robert Hedlund is proposing a memorial for Vera Adams at the new Tufts Library. Hedlund told the Patriot Ledger this week he will seek approval from the memorial committee to name one of the library's sunny reading rooms after Adams, who was shot and killed July 15 along with Weymouth Sgt. Michael Chesna.

According to Hedlund, a memorial fund set up by Adams' family will be used to furnish the reading room. He wants to get approval for the room soon so designers can add it to the final 50,000-square-foot library design.

The current library is expected to be torn down this year to make way for the Tufts Library, which is scheduled for completion in June 2020.
