Weymouth NCAA Track Star Finishes Her College Career on a High Note

Samantha Bennett earns Capital One Academic All-District Team honors.

Weymouth star runner Samantha Bennett  has been chosen to the Capital One Academic All-District Team for women’s track & field and cross country.

The Wheaton College senior was selected by College Sports Information Directors of America members in New England.

Bennett is now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America accolades which will be selected in June.

She becomes the fourth student-athlete in the history of the Wheaton College women’s track & field program to claim such honors.

In her collegiate track career, the mid-distance runner had earned three All-America honors in the 800-meter run (indoors) and the 4x400-meter relay, twice outdoors. She also finished eighth overall in the 800-meter run during the 2013 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in Naperville, Illinois, with a time of 2:15.56.

She currently holds two school records at Wheaton College in the 800-meter run indoors with a time of 2:13.37 and the 1,500-meter run outdoors in 4:37.24.

The Weymouth resident has also excelled off the field. As a double major in English and sociology, Bennett has compiled a 3.37 GPA. Ahs also serves as a residential life advisor on campus, a member of both the Wheaton Athletic Mentors and the Student-Athlete Advisory committee, and a member of the college  girls’ soccer team.
