Weymouth NHL Star Assists Team to Playoff Victory

Charlie Coyle's assist was his second of the playoffs.

Right winger Charlie Coyle tallied an assist in the Minnesota Wild’s victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.

Coyle, a rookie NHL forward from East Weymouth fed the puck to Zach Parise who scored the backhanded goal to help the Wild take a 2-1 lead.  Minnesota eventually went on to win the game, 3-2 in overtime.  The victory was the team’s first playoff win, in the Best of 7 Game series against the Blackhawks.

Coyle’s assist was his second of the playoffs. He also had one in the Wild’s Game 2 loss.

Coyle, only 21, was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.  In June 2011, he was traded to Wild in the same trade that brought star right winger Devin Setoguchi to Minnesota.

Coyle graduated from Weymouth High School in 2010.

He had 8 goals and 6 assists in his first season with the Wild.
