Police received a call falsely reporting gunshots at the home of Mayor Robert Hedlund.

WEYMOUTH, MA - Police in Weymouth have received another hoax threat, this time, a call reporting gunshots at the home of Mayor Robert Hedlund.

In 911 audio obtained by FOX 25, a voice designed to sound like an automated security system reported a shooting at the mayor’s address. The practice is known as swatting and is suppose to provoke a large police response.

Police, however, figured out quickly that the call was a prank.

For unknown reasons, Weymouth has been the target of multiple false threats. In January, automated bomb threats have been received by Weymouth High School, both middle schools, South Shore Hospital, the Weymouth Police Departments, and various businesses.

Police are investigating all the calls and whether they are connected.
