Weymouth Public Libraries Teach Users How To Download Free eBooks
Weymouth librarians will be on call to help library users search for ebooks or audio books, navigate the checkout process and download them onto ebook devices.

The Weymouth Public Libraries will hold over two-dozen ebook sessions this month to help users download free library books onto their devices.
For the next week, there will be at least one daily drop in session with librarians on call to help Weymouth library users search for ebooks or audio books, navigate the checkout process and download them onto ebook devices.
“We knew there would be increased interest in ebooks over the holidays, and we wanted to meet that demand by offering librarians on call everyday to assist our patrons,” Maura Deedy, Head of Reference and Adult Services said in a statement. “Learning a new technology can be challenging and we wanted to create an environment for one-on-one sessions, as each device is so unique.”
According to Deedy, all patrons need to bring is their fully charged and registered device, their library card number and PIN. Kindle users will need their Amazon username and password, and tablet users any username and password to access the App Store on their device.

The number of owners of either a tablet computer or e-book reading device such as a Kindle or Nook grew from 18 percent in late 2011 to 33 percent in late 2012, according to the Pew Internet and American Life project.
“We’ve invested in the Old Colony Library Network ebooks program, and have purchased additional titles for Weymouth users through the Advantage program,” Robert MacLean, director of Weymouth Public Libraries said. “We want to get those books off the virtual bookshelf and onto our customer’s ereaders.”
