Weymouth Resident and Lottery Millionaire Becomes State's Welfare Chief

Jeffrey McCue, a Weymouth resident, started the job earlier this month.

The state’s new welfare chief is a lottery millionaire thanks to a winning scratch ticket purchased in 2011

Jeffrey McCue, a Weymouth resident, bought the $10 million winning ticket in a Weymouth food market on the recommendation of his wife according to WCVB.

The Boston Globe reported that McCue started the job on April 16, coming out of retirement to take the position of commissioner of the state Department of Transitional Assistance.

Much of the money was used to pay for the education of his children.

McCue’s past position includes the assistant vice chancellor for human resources at the University of Massachusetts in Boston and deputy commissioner at the Department of Mental Health. He also worked in the Executive Office of Health and Human Services.
