Weymouth Woman Bit Paramedic, Resisted Arrest for Drunken Driving: Police

Police charged Aja Jackson with drunken driving, assault on a police officer, assault on a paramedic, and resisting arrest.

WEYMOUTH, MA — A Weymouth woman faces multiple charges after driving while drunk and assaulting first responders, police said.

Aja Jackson, 38, was arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court and charged with operating under the influence of liquor, operating with a suspended license, assaulting a police officer, assaulting an ambulance worker, and resisting arrest. She is free on personal recognizance.

On July 24 at 2:04 a.m., a Nissan Altima with a passed out woman behind the wheel in a Main Street parking lot was reported. When police arrived, they attempted to wake up the woman, identified as Jackson.

According to a police report written by officer David Canny, Jackson had bloodshot and glassy eyes and slurred speech. When the officers asked her questions, Jackson allegedly didn't reply or deviated on the answers. Jackson continued to allegedly ignore the officers when she was asked for her license. After several requests, she began to look for her purse, which Canny mentioned was on the floor of the vehicle. After a search of her purse, she said she was unable to find her license. It was later located in her purse during the booking process.

Police allegedly made multiple requests for Jackson to get out of her vehicle, which she eventually did with some assistance. Once she was out, she ignored a request to move to the back of the vehicle.

Based on his observations, Canny decided to arrest her without a field sobriety test, but Jackson pulled away from the arresting officer. After multiple attempts, police were able to arrest Jackson by pinning her to the hood of a car and using pepper spray. While waiting for the police wagon to pick her up, Jackson bit a paramedic and then "impeded the decontamination efforts being administered by Fallon Ambulance."

Jackson was held by police on $5,040 bail before it was removed in court. She is due back on Aug. 18.
