Wife Of Slain Weymouth Sgt: 'Police Are Not Your Enemies'
Cindy Chesna, widow of Sgt. Michael Chesna, penned an op-ed ahead of the anniversary of his death urging kindness toward first responders.

WEYMOUTH, MA — The widow of a slain Weymouth police officer is urging kindness toward one another ahead of the anniversary of his death. Cindy Chesna, Sgt. Michael Chesna's wife, penned an op-ed in the Patriot Ledger asking communities to remember that first responders have loved ones, too.
"Mike loved being a police officer but most importantly he loved being a husband and father. Police officers choose this occupation to protect you and your families," Chesna wrote in part. "The police are not your enemies; they are here to help you in your time of need. Police officers perform heroic acts every day: They save lives, arrest dangerous criminals and some make the ultimate sacrifice like my husband, Sgt. Mike Chesna."
Chesna and a bystander, Vera Adams, were shot and killed on July 15, 2018 when a suspect hit Chesna with a rock and stole his gun. Emanuel Lopes has been charged with two counts of murder.
