WEYMOUTH, MA —Weymouth police are looking for whoever is responsible for setting a trap they said caused "major trauma" to a wild animal on Sunday. Police said the trap was located in the area of Bridge Street, Pratt Avenue and Newton Court.

"Unfortunately, a wild animal was trapped in it and suffered major trauma," Weymouth police said in a release. "These traps are illegal and dangerous not only to wildlife, but dogs, cats and people. If you see one of these traps do not attempt to handle it as it can cause severe injury, contact us to deal with it."

Weymouth police are asking anyone with information on who may have set the trap to contact Animal Control Officer Mike Parker at 781-335-1212 or email mparker@weymouth.ma.us.
