ValleyCAST Presents: A Conversation with The Blackstone River | Opening Reception

Event Details
Spanning 50 miles from Worcester to Providence, the Blackstone River features distinct contrasts - from urban and industrial centers to rural and natural environments, shaped by both heavy industrial use and ongoing conservation efforts. Through aerial and ground-level photography, long-time Blackstone Valley photographers James Hunt and Bob Evans showcase ecological history and diverse landscapes rarely seen by the casual observer.
Opening reception with light refreshments: Thursday, November 5, 5–8 pm
Gallery hours: Monday–Friday, 9 am–4 pm
On view through December 18, 2026
Incorporating both digital imagery and traditional film, this exhibition brings together two complimentary artistic perspectives. James Hunt draws on a decade of environmental photography and his background in sustainability to piece together the River’s multi-layered story, accompanied by the short film A Brief Conversation with the Blackstone River (co-created with Evans). Bob Evans applies a meticulous, engineering-informed eye to capture human impact, quiet decay, and structural details along the waterway. Together, their work invites viewers to look beyond the surface, consider the River’s storied past, and re-examine our collective responsibility to the natural world.
