A Tale of Two Halves
Wilmington girls lacrosse team enters halftime down one goal, ends game with fifth straight loss.
For the , it was a tale of two halves. The second frame was not the ending the Wildcats had hoped for.
Visiting Pentucket clung to a 9-8 advantage at halftime on Monday, but pulled away with a strong second half to earn an 18-13 win that dropped the Lady Wildcats to 0-5 on the season.
“I think it’s just keeping a level of intensity throughout the whole game,” said Wilmington head coach Maura Kee. “That’s our biggest setback right now is keeping consistency through the whole game. It comes with maturity, and it’s just a drive. It’s confidence that if a couple of goals go in, we’re not losing focus.”

Following the halftime horn, Pentucket made sure the contest didn’t remain close. The visitors scored early in the second stanza and tallied the first six goals of the second half.
Despite the loss, Kee said her team has made significant improvements since the campaign started. She said her charges play strong in practices and don’t hesitate asking questions about something they feel they may be missing.

“Getting that first win is huge for sure,” said Kee. “I think that’s where the confidence comes is when you win and you know you can win and feel good about your play. Once we get that first ‘W,’ we can be on a roll after that. That’s the plan at least.”
