Amtrak Downeaster Train Derails in Maine En Route to Boston

Some trains are cancelled Tuesday afternoon. No injuries reported in derailment.

The rear engine of an Amtrak Downeaster train headed for Boston derailed in Portland late Tuesday afternoon.

Officials told WMUR that 36 people were on board the train when it derailed a half mile outside of Portland, Maine. According to reports, the train left Portland at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. No injuries have been reported.

Amtrak posted just after 4:15 p.m. that Trains 685 and 686 were cancelled Tuesday. Train 687 will run according to schedule. Passengers with tickets for the 685 train will be accommodated on Train 687.

The Downeaster is a 145-mile regional passenger train service, managed by the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority, and operated by Amtrak.
