WYLA offers McDougall Scholarship for the fourth year

WILMINGTON,MA – The Wilmington Youth Lacrosse Association (WYLA) is proud to announce that for the fourth year in a row, the WYLA will be offering two academic scholarships in memory of Paul “Scotty” McDougall, a coach, friend, and founding member of the Wilmington Youth Lacrosse Association. These scholarships are worth $1000 apiece and will be awarded to two graduating seniors in the class of 2013 that will be enrolling in an accredited college or university next fall.  There will be a boys’ and girls’ scholarship offered to former Wilmington Youth Lacrosse players.  Scholarship application information can be found on the Wilmington Youth Lacrosse Association website at www.wilmingtonlax.com

When the scholarship program first began, the WYLA offered $500 scholarships until Scotty’s wife, Sheila McDougall, offered to match the scholarship to double the value of each scholarship.

The application deadline is May 30, 2013.  Awards will be made on the basis of merit, academic performance, and school and/or community service.  In order to be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must meet four initial criteria. 
First, they must be a high school graduate in the class of 2013.  Second, they must be accepted with the intent to enroll in an accredited two or four-year College or University.  Third, they must have played one full year for the Wilmington Youth Lacrosse Association. Lastly, the student must be a resident of Wilmington.
