The Wilmington Common was the site of an Ecumenical Rally for Unity and Healing. The rallly, a response to the incident 2 months ago, where 3 churches in the community where vandalized, with red spray paint and stenciling, was the idea of a group of parishinors of the Catholic community of Wilmington and South Tewksbury. When asked, Mr Malvone the one of the organizer of the rally stated that " many in the Community were hurt, and some even devastated by the incident and that to be able to go on the community needed to feel healing and offer forgiveness to the perpetrators of this incident.
Approximately 50 - 60 people gathered near the gazebo on the common. In the Opening address Mr Malvone stated how Forgiveness and healing were important to put the incident behind us, and to go forward, in Hope for the future, Also he mentioned that this as the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther Kings March on Washington, and how Dr King worked tirelessly for racial, religious, understanding.The crowd dedicated themselves to the principles of Martin Luther King,and Francis of Assisi,by reciting the Peace Prayer of Francis of Assisi.They then ended the song "Let their be Peace on Earth. The crowd was then addressed by Rep Micelli. Mr Micelli stated that he to was" sickened" by the incident and how if and when the people were caught " they would not turn out to be Wilmington Residents".
The Leaders on the gazebo were Pat Archfield, Fr Paul Flammia of the Catholic Community of Wilmington and South Tewksbury, Rev Ron Grimley From Abundant Life Church Fr,Rev Travis Bonnette-Kim,From the Wilmington Methodist Church, Leonard Malvone, David O'Mahoney, Mark Sullivan,Lori Tamagini,From Catholic Community Of Wilmington and South Tewksbury and Rev Tom Van Antwerp From Grace Chapel.The people present were a representation of many of the churches.
