As a volunteer assistant tennis coach to Rob Mailey, I have the privilege and pleasure of working alongside a seasoned, knowledgeable, and subtly influential tennis expert. This is my second year assisting Coach Mailey with the boys' tennis team. His coaching style is stern yet sensible and effective. Under his leadership, players have shown great improvement. That was particularly evident today at an optional practice. Four members of both the girls' and boys' teams worked hard to improve their strokes and match play. Coach Mailey is a strong influence in their desire to put in the time at practices in order to become the player he believes they can be. He and they are a pleasure to work with, and I am honored to be a alongside him and them as an assistant coach. It was once published that Wilmington is not a tennis town...I suspect Coach Mailey is on a path to change that perception, and I'm excited to be along for the ride.
