Wilmington Memorial Library Offering Farmer Dave's CSA

Local eating just got really convenient.

Have you been considering siging up for a CSA, but unable to find one offering a distribution point close enough to home? Well you're in luck. The library will be a distribution point for Farmer Dave's CSA this year.

Don't know what a CSA is? Need more information? Please take a few minutes to read the following press release issued by Farmer Dave.

The Wilmington Memorial Library, and Farmer Dave’s, a sustainable farm in Dracut, MA, have teamed up to bring locally-grown, fresh fruits and vegetables to Wilmington with a Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. In the CSA program, consumers become shareholders of the farm for the season by paying for their shares of the harvest upfront, and in return will receive shares of freshly-harvested produce for 20 weeks, from mid-June through late October. Shares will be freshly harvested by Farmer Dave’s, and ready for pick-up on Thursday afternoons from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Wilmington Memorial Library located at 175 Middlesex Avenue.  Payment plans are available.

Every week, from mid-June through October, CSA members will receive a share of fresh vegetables grown exclusively at Farmer Dave’s fields in Dracut and Tewksbury. Shares are available in small and regular sizes to suit the produce needs of individuals to large families, vegetarians and omnivores. Every share includes generous portions of the season’s bounty, each in its due time, including summer favorites such as tomatoes and corn, cooking staples like onions, carrots and potatoes, and chefs’ picks like chard, beets, and other novelties to experiment with throughout the season.  Farmer Dave employs sustainable farming methods to ensure products that are healthy, nutritious, tasty and responsibly grown.

The CSA also offers a fruit share (late July – late October), featuring raspberries, blueberries, melons, peaches, nectarines, and apples. The fruit is perfect for breakfast, a snack on-the-go, or a healthy dessert.

In an effort to serve the greater Wilmington community, the Wilmington Memorial Library and Farmer Dave's will donate surplus produce each week. CSA members, businesses, religious organizations, non-profits and individuals may also make donations to the Groundwork Share-A-Share™ program. Share-A-Share™ program funds will be used to subsidize CSA shares for households interested in the CSA and who would otherwise be unable to afford participation.

In addition to Wilmington, members can also choose from several other pick-up locations in the greater Boston area, including Tewksbury, Somerville, Burlington, East Boston, Reading, Malden, Boston Medical Center, and more.
