Wilmington Sons Of Italy Hold Annual Scholarship Night

Wilmington Sons of Italy have Scholarship night

On the  evening  of  June 17 the  Wilmington  Sons  of  Italy, closed the  lodge year   with their, Annual Scholarship  Awards  night. Every  year  the Wilmington Sons  Of Italy  gives  6 Scholarships  to  Students from the  local  area, from either  public  or  private high schools. Also the  Lodge provides  scholarships  for Graduate  Level  students. This  year a 7th  Scholarship  was added in memory  of a local  area member. The  Scholarships  are for  $1000.00, the  moneys are from the  many fundraisers held  by the  Lodge, from private funding.The  Scholarships  and their  Winners are as follows:           

                        Kristin  Alfonso, received the Past Presidents' Award.

                      Michelle Woods, was the recipient of the Christopher S. DiCecca Memorial Award. Chris was a long-time member, and past president of the lodge. His wife Beverly is still a member.

   David  Caira, received the Rev. Francis W. Mackin Memorial Award. Mackin was a beloved priest from St. Thomas and was the Lodge Chaplain.    

     Mark  Caira, was the recipient of the Laura Caira Award. Laura and two others, Frances Gray and George Murray, founded the Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli Lodge (Wilmington Sons of Italy) and she continues to hold an office in the lodge to this day.

      Courtney  Patterson, received the Gerald Esposito Memorial Award. Jerry was a charter member of the lodge who died at a young age from cancer, leaving a wife and four small children. He was the first of our members to pass away.

     Rachel Yarid, Recieved the Sons  of Italy Memorial  award. 

 Gemma  Fuller, was the  recipient of the  first annual   Rosemary  Malvone  L.P.N  Memorial  Award. Rosemary  was a beloved  member of the  Lodge  who passed away  this  year, after a courageous  battle  with  Cancer. Her husband  is still  very active in Lodge  affairs.    

 The  Members  of the  Wilmington Lodge  wish  good luck  and great success  to the  winners of the  Scholarships.
