Women of Wilmington Sponsor the 3rd Annual 5k Road Race and Kim Forte Walk

Women of Wilmington 5k road race and Kim Forte Walk.

Over 550 runners, and walkers  off  all ages  gathered Sunday April 28th on the  Wilmington  Common, for the  third annual  5k  road race and  Kim Forte walk. The  walk/race, sponsored  by the  Women  of  Wilmington is an annual  fundraiser that helps  raise  money  for  scholarships at Wilmington High  School , and supports   many  charities, in the Town  of Wilmington. People came together  on the common, and at  11:00 am  after a brief  message of thanks  from Kim Forte husband  , and a thank you from  Michelle Bryan  Vice President of Women  of Wilmington, and race coordinator.  Rep Jim Micelli  brought the  runners to their  mark and counted down  to start the  race. Approximately  17 min after the  race started, the  first runner  Mr  Doherty  from Chelmsford  crossed the  finish  line, with the last walker crossing by noon

The  Women  of Wilmington  is a Local  organization of both women and men who, according to  President JoMarie O'Mahoney  main purpose is to  raise money  to  fund  many charities, such as Adopt a family, and  fund  a  number of  Scholarships   for Wilmington High School seniors . The Organization does this  by having two major fundraisers; Festival  of Trees which is held at Christmas time, and this  road race.

The  race/walk  is also  in memory  of Kim Forte , A popular Wilmington  resident  who was an avid  walker, who's life as tragically  cut short when  she was hit by a car, crossing by Silver Lake. Many of Ms Forte  family took part in the  race  including her husband , her mother  and her sisters.
