Wilmington Man Was Not Drunk When He Drove Into Old Walgreens: Police
The man is not facing charges despite police initially reporting he'd be charged with an OUI.
WILMINGTON, MA — The man who drove into the old Walgreens building on Main Street Wednesday morning won't face charges after police determined he in fact wasn't driving drunk. Police said Friday afternoon the driver, a 34-year-old Wilmington, suffered a medical issue preceding the crash.
When police initially reported the crash, they said the man was facing charges including OUI liquor (2nd offense) and carrying a loaded firearm while under the influence of intoxicating liquor. "New evidence" has helped determine the crash was instead a result of a medical issue, police said Friday.
The man was driving north on Main Street when his 2004 Chevy Silverado left the road, crossed through a parking lot, and crashed through the building's front doors. (Subscribe to Wilmington Patch for the latest local news and real-time alerts.)
