Coaching WHS Hockey 'Still a Thrill' for Scanlon

Wilmington High School boys hockey head coach Steve Scanlon was a junior varsity coach for seven years and has been the varsity coach for the last 23 seasons.

It never gets old for Steve Scanlon.

The Wilmington High School mentor said that after seven years as JV coach and 23 seasons as the Wildcats head boys hockey coach, coming to the rink is "still a thrill," especially after winning the program's first ever state championship last year against Franklin.

Scanlon's charges entered this season as the No. 3 seed in the North Division 2 bracket, considered by many the favorite to repeat.
