Crackdown on Wilmington Distracted Driving Results in 15 Citations in One Hour

Police spent one hour on Main Street and handed out 15 citations, and they weren't all phone-related.

Wilmington Traffic and Patrol Officers spent some time Thursday morning targeting distracted drivers on Main Street. They were pretty busy.

In a one-hour period, police say the gave eight citations to individuals distracted by their phones, one citation to an someone who almost drove onto the sidewalk while trying to light a cigarette, two citations for operators with inspection sticker violations, three citations for operators not wearing seatbelts, and one citation for an operator with a 5-year-old in the front seat with no car seat.

Police remind you that you cannot text or use any other phone function except for talking while driving. Please always give your full attention to the road!
