Crossflame Youth Choir comes to Wilmington

Youth choir to lead service at Wilmington United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 21

WILMINGTON - On Sunday, June 21, at its 9:30 am service, Wilmington United Methodist Church will host a worship concert by the 60+ members of the Crossflame Youth Choir and Orchestra of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Hickory, North Carolina. The concert includes music and drama exploring the choir’s tour theme of “Listening for the Heartbeat of God...” Musical styles range from Grieg to Gospel, but each selection is carefully chosen to explore this year’s tour theme.

The Crossflame Youth Choir and Orchestra is one of the oldest continuous church youth choirs in the United States. The choir began in 1994, and has toured each summer since its inception. They performed in Canada in 2011, and in 2010 on stage as part of a Grand Ol’ Opry Program in Nashville, Tennessee for the second time since 2000. They shared the stage with legendary performers Roy Clark, George Hamilton IV, Vestal Goodman, Ronni Stoneman and many others. In 2006, the choir sang at the opening worship service for the annual conference of Methodist Churches in the UK, at the Nicholson Square Methodist Church in Edinburgh, Scotland. Each year’s concert tour also includes concerts in nursing homes, children’s hospitals, Salvation Army homeless shelters and other venues.

Admission is free, and the community is encouraged to attend.
