Five Things You Need to Know: Election Day

1. Today is a big day in Wilmington. Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the various venues around town that residents would normally vote at. That means Precincts one and two will vote at , precincts three and four will vote at and precincts five and six will travel to cast their vote at , just like in the spring.
2. While there are six items on the agenda for Saturday's Special Town Meeting, Tuesday's vote is much simpler. The question asked of residents in the voting booths will be a yes or no option. Do you support a or not. A simple majority vote is needed on Tuesday, with a two-thirds result on Saturday to move the project forward.

3. The last time a school vote came before the town, the result was a close one. passed on the regular election ballot in 1997. In total, 2,123 residents said yes, 2,008 said no and 236 left the question blank. That means the school passed by only 115 tallies, so yes, your vote does count.
4. If the school passes, the estimated tax impact will likely be about $162 according to Town Manager Michael Caira. That impact would not show up on the 2012 tax bill, which is . Instead, the tax impact of the school would arrive in 2013.

5. In the event that the project does not pass at the booths on Tuesday, Saturday's Special Town Meeting will still take place. If the vote does pass on Tuesday, past history suggests it will pass at Town Meeting as well. Though the 1997 election was decided by 115 votes, it was overwhelmingly supported several days later at Town Meeting.
