Giving Wilmington Athletes a Boost

Wilmington Boosters Association hosts fundraising dinner and dance Saturday night.

On Saturday night, the plays host to a dance that’s certain to be entertaining. But the best likely part isn’t the music, dancing, or prizes that will be raffled off. The highlight of the evening is that the evening of fun will help Wilmington students attend college in the near future.

The Wilmington Boosters Association annual fundraising dinner and dance takes place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, with all proceeds put towards the group’s scholarship fund for Wildcat student-athletes.

Through their efforts and similar events last year, the Boosters presented 20 students with a total of $10,000 at the end of the year.

“The night is filled with music, laughter and socializing with friends and neighbors, people you usually see in the bleachers, on the sidelines or at the bus stop,” said Bonnie DiOrio, president of the Wilmington Boosters. “Scholarships are so important, first and foremost to recognize those athletes who work so hard during their season, and secondly to offer financial assistance for college or post high school schooling expenses.”

In addition to the evening’s raffles, this year’s event will also feature a silent auction. Some of the items that guests can leave with include Boston Bruins tickets, a digital camera and four tickets and VIP parking for this summer’s Taylor Swift concert at Gillette Stadium.
