Before you gear up for to watch a trifecta of teams battle this week in the postseason, take a look back at the last week in sports to get yourself ready.

Nauset visited the Wilmington hardwood on Tuesday, and it was an off shooting night for standout Vinny Scifo, who registered just six points on the evening.

“We’re happy every time we win a game. Every time we play is a tough game,” said Joe Maiella, whose charges sprinted out to a 19-point lead in the second half before the margin was sliced to single digits. “It’s a long year … You’re playing non-league games and you’ve got to ramp it back up for the tournament.”

On Wednesday night, the locals won yet again as they closed out the regular season with a road victory over Billerica.

During the game against Nauset, the entertained the crowd with an eight minute scrimmage at halftime.

It was a game that had been hyped for a long time as both teams prepared to prove who is best in the area. But when , there was only one team that lived up to the hype.

Steve Scanlon’s Wildcats dominated play from the get-go and showed they are ready for the North Division 2 playoffs. Wilmington dismantled the Redmen in every sense of the word and won, 6-0.

“They outplayed us in the first period, second period and third period. We didn’t come to play hockey tonight,” said Tewksbury head coach Derek Doherty. “We need to play stronger, we need to play more physical and we can’t let teams push us around like we did tonight”

Cam Owens continued his sparking sophomore season with three goals, and the WIldcats .

News started trickling in throughout the weekend as to the playoff fate of Wilmington teams.

First, the MIAA released its basketball brackets. It was then that the Wilmington girls basketball team found out it will travel to Boston Latin Academy on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Then, the boys found out the news they had known since winning against Billerica. and await the winner of Winchester vs. Malden Catholic, a game slated for Monday night.

On Saturday, the good news kept coming. The and, though they were considered for Super 8 play, the Wildcats play on Thursday in North Division 2 play after a first round bye.

“Considering what we lost to graduation, we never thought we’d be in position to get a one seed again,” said Scanlon. “It could have been hard to keep focused with everything wrapped up so early. Maybe you don’t put as much stock in the remaining games but we did a good job of finishing well.”
