Local Nine Bounce Back and Top Wakefield [VIDEO]
11- and 12-year-old all-stars earn win to even tournament mark at 1-1.
Wilmington’s second contest in pool play of the District 13 11- and 12-year-old Little League all-star tournament was shaping up an awful lot like its first. It didn’t, however, finish with the same result.
After the locals were thumped by Woburn, 10-3, to start the tournament, they fell behind 3-0 after the top of the first against Wakefield on Tuesday.
But Wilmington chipped away throughout the remaining innings and snagged a 6-3 win to even its record at 1-1 through two games.

“We’re coming together much more as a team right now,” said manager Bob Gage, whose answer was simple when asked what his team needed to do to add to its win total. “Just play like we did today, and we’ll be all set.”
Darin MacEcheron started on the hill for Wilmington, and wasn’t rattled by a shaky first frame. He bounced back nicely and polished off a complete game victory with a flawless top of the sixth to seal the win.
