Local Youths Can Try Hockey for Free Saturday
The national event has a local version at Wilmington's Ristuccia Arena.

The National Hockey League may be in the midst of a lengthy lockout, but that doesn’t mean all hockey players are sidelined.
Wilmington has a rich history on the ice, and hopes to add even more players to its feeder program as it hosts Try Hockey for Free Day in partnership with USA Hockey.
As a part of the national event, Wilmington Youth Hockey Association invtes boys and girls four to nine years old to come to Ristuccia Arena on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. for a clinic that will allow them to experience ice hockey for the first time and learn the basics of the sport.

“We look forward to introducing new families to our sport,” said Joe Kippenberger, WYHA vice president. “To help keep costs reasonable for parents, we’ve incorporated programs to provide first-year players with equipment for the season.”
Rental equipment will be available on a first come, first serve basis. The cost is $50 for the entire season. Kippenberger added that WYHA also offers flex fee arrangements for those who request them, something that allows families to stay within budget.
