The North Reading boys lacrosse team entered Thursday action with a 12-2 record, while Wilmington came into the contest at 5-7. But looks can be deceiving.
Though the Hornets ended up with an 11-5 victory at , the Wildcats slugged away with the visitors and kept the game close throughout. There was one difference in the game, however, as Cody Carbone took over the game with six goals to lead his team to victory.
“We’re lucky to have a pretty special player. If we don’t have Cody, that’s the difference in the game and we’re going into overtime,” said North Reading head coach Chuck Campobasso. “Where we’re struggling a bit is we come into a game like this where we’re challenged and it’s a physical game, we haven’t had a lot of games like that lately.”

Aside from Carbone’s six tallies, Cam Knight managed two goals and an assist, Eric Valenti poured home a pair of markers and Dylan Poore chipped in one marker and three helpers.
Normally struggling to win multiple games throughout the season in past years, Wilmington stormed out of the gates this year for four straight wins. Since then, it’s been a struggle for head coach Mike Fay’s charges.

“We’re running hard. We just need to finish on offense. We had some opportunities, it just didn’t happen for us,” said Fay. “Man for man, none of them quit. They work hard in practice. We usually have decent practices. We make mistakes, we coach them up. It’s just where we’re at. We have limited bodies.”
