Melrose Works Past Wilmington Girls Tennis
Though Wilmington had several close matches, the Lady Wildcats fell to visiting Melrose on Wednesday afternoon.
The Wilmington High School girls tennis team hung close with Melrose early in Wednesday's match, but the visitors proved too much for the Lady Wildcats during a 4-1 home loss.
No. 3 singles player Katie Richardson had Wilmington's only victory of the day, cruising past her Melrose opponent by a 6-1, 6-1 margin.
Michelle Woods played a stellar first set before eventually falling 7-5, 6-2, at No. 2 singles. Wrapping up singles play was No. 1 player Kristen Tavares, who fell by a 6-0, 6-2 margin.

At doubles, top pairing Anna Siegel and Delaney Gillis fell to their Melrose foes, 6-1, 6-3, while Jane Farrell and Julia Carter were toppled, 6-0, 6-0.
Following the win, Melrose improved to 9-5 on the year while the Lady Wildcats dropped to 5-11 with the loss.
