Wilmington Trick-Or-Treating Still On For Tuesday

The town is still working to clear debris from major roadways and working with RMLD to restore power service to Wilmington customers.

WILMINGTON, MA -- The Wilmington Police Department said Monday night that trick-or-treating was still on for Tuesday night as the town continued to clear roads of fallen limbs and waited for Reading Municipal Light Department to restore power to all of its customers in Wilmington. In a post on its Twitter feed, the department said it would offer update information if town officials do decide to postpone trick-or-treating. Neighboring Tewksbury, for example, has already moved trick-or-treating to Friday night.

Earlier on Monday, Wilmington officials said crews have been working nonstop since 11 pm Sunday night to remove debris from roads, secure downed wires and restore power swervice. On Monday morning the town said it would extend hours for yard waste drop off this week to aid homeowners a they clean up from the overnight windstorm.

The Wilmington yard waste center on Old Main Street will be open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 am to 2 pm this week, as well as its normal Saturday hours of 9 am to 4 pm. Next week, the center will be open from 8 am to 2 pm Monday-Thursday and 9 am t0 4 pm on Friday and Saturday. Rsidents will not have to show a punch card to access the yard waste center during these dates but proof of residency will be required.

Wilmington Public Schools were closed all day Monday. Downed lines should be reported immediately to Reading Municipal Light and to the Wilmington Police at (978) 658-5071. For questions related to power outages or electricity, contact Reading Muncipal Light at (781) 942-6598.

Reading Municipal Light, which services Wilmington and other area towns, was reporting widespread outages. A spokesperson for the utility said crews were working as quickly as possible to restore power, but the exact number of customers affected or a schedule for when service would be restored could not be determined early Monday morning.
