WILMINGTON, MA -- Police officers stationed at the Fun On The Fourth festivities on the town common Sunday noticed a bonfire at a nearby Middlesex Avenue getting out of control. The fire was less than 50 feet away from a barn on the property. A quick call to the fire department resulted in the fire being quickly put out.

"Residents are reminded that open burning is only allowed between January 15 - May 1 and residents must obtain a burn permit from the Fire Department in advance," Wilmington Police said in a Facebook post Monday morning. More information about open burning is available online.
