Planning To Attend Town Meeting? Wilmington Wants To Know

Town meeting is set to take place June 27 on the Wilmington High School softball field.

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington officials issued a survey Monday seeking to gauge turnout for the annual town meeting, scheduled for June 27.

The town meeting will take place outside, in a tent, on the Wilmington High School Softball Field, to allow for social distancing to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. Seating will be spaced out and sanitized, walkways will be one-way, and voter check-in will be no-contact.

The survey asks residents if they plan to attend and what size group they'll come in. The survey is available here.

Town Moderator Robert Peterson said he "will take appropriate steps if it is deemed unsafe to hold the meeting"; he can postpone the meeting if need be.

Attendees will decide on the Fiscal Year 2021 budget, among other matters. The budget, initially planned to be $120.8 million, is being reduced about $1.5 million due to expected coronavirus-related revenue shortfalls.
