Wilmington baseball team snags 5-1 victory in Dick Scanlon Tournament opening round to qualify for state playoffs.

After struggling at the plate during stretches throughout the season, the Wilmington High School baseball team's playoff hopes were in jeopardy.

But the team put together a crucial late season push to win three consecutive contests entering the final weekend of the season. Then, on Saturday against Chelmsford, that streak reached four and the assured itself that the season will continue into the next week.

Head coach Aldo Caira's charges needed one win during the first of two games of the Dick Scanlon Tournament, and the Wildcats sealed their fate with a 5-1 victory in their opening contest against Chelmsford on Saturday.
