The Boston Bruins announced over the summer they are leaving their practice facility at Ristuccia Arena to move closer to Boston, which prompted town officials to look into seeing if it would make sense for the town to purchase the rink.

Questions have continued to be raised about the role the arena plays in town in that when it was built nearly 30 years ago, it was said to allow access to the rink to Wilmington residents and youth hockey. Today, it caters more toward other interests over local ones. A purchase of the rink by the town would give residents and youth hockey a rink of their own.
