School Committee Advances Push To Name Room For Barbara Mette
The long-time Wilmington band teacher and director is retiring at the end of this year.
WILMINGTON, MA — A push to rename the Wilmington High School music room for long-time music teacher and band director Barbara Mette moved forward Wednesday, the Wilmington Apple reported. The school committee approved a motion to ask the selectmen to put the proposal on the town meeting warrant, at their meeting Wednesday night. Mette is retiring at the end of the year, after 46 years with the town.
According to the Wilmington Apple, resident Jeff Cranford requested the change.
“I am sure that I don’t need to list, for this committee, the accomplishments, the dedication, and the gifts brought to the Wilmington Public Schools by Ms. Barbara Mette. Anyone who has worked with her, or had their kids impacted by her work, knows how incredibly she has served us,” Cranford wrote. “As a small gesture, I’d like to ask the School Committee that they request the [Board of Selectmen] to place an article on the warrant of the next Town Meeting… to name and dedicate the Music Room in Wilmington High School in Ms. Mette’s honor.”
